Everyone's favourite Egyptian action romp Trilogy “The Mummy” is being made in to a Massively Multiplayer Online Game for PC.  Heading towards a Winter 2010 release The Mummy Online will be  a free-to-play Action-RPG MMO game with adventure elements inspired by the films, players will take on heroic roles as adventure seekers with various talents and skills that will allow their characters to be unique within the MMO virtual world. Set in Egypt during the first half of the twentieth century, gamers will experience familiar environments and key characters from the film franchise as they battle against each other and ancient evil Egyptian myths and monsters.""

The official website is live at www.themummy.bigpoint.com. There isn't really anything to see yet, just a newsletter to sign up for but already you can see the 30's style look, familiar from the films and the kind of locations, enemies and characters you can expect to encounter.

It seems a long time since the first The Mummy film but they will be hoping they can replicate the success of the film franchise with this MMO.   The trilogy grossed over $1.2 billion in cinemas worldwide and already encompasses theme park rides, animated series, spin-offs and more.  Big point meanwhile have been busy creating a huge portfolio of online brower based games over the past few years and look well placed to deliver this project.
