Fuel features a huge variety of vehicles to race in and explore the environment with; seventy in total. These range from the smallest motorbike to massive four wheel drive behemoths. Judging from the trailer’s variety in the environment, some of these are built for speed, and others for manoeuvrability. Choosing the right vehicle for the right terrain, (or given the game’s sense of exploratory freedom, the right terrain for the right vehicle!) is key to winning the numerous challenge races. Fuel’s fully integrated physics engine looks like it will be able to provide responsive and realistic feedback to your racing, as you tackle rocks, mountains and even the occasional tornado.
This gives the vehicles a real sense of connection to the landscape. Also, mud splatters on each one as you drive it through the terrain. This is a purely visual effect, but it really serves to further the sense of realism that the game sets up. One thing’s for sure: Fuel really is a looker, and the developers promise a completely new gaming experience, pushing this generation’s hardware to the max in creating a racing game that they say has, up until now, been technically unachievable.
