Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection
Ah, the 90's. A time where the video games industry was still clawing its way to legitimacy and a time where Sega did what Nintendidn't. Seeking to capitalize on a period where the name Sonic the Hedgehog didn't induce groans in his former fan base, Sega has released Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, a compilation of over 40 games for the Sega genesis.
Some of the greatest games from the 16-bit era, such as the Phantasy Star games, the Shining Series, and the early Sonic games, are included with this collection. Some of the games in the collection, such as Sonic 3D Blast, are a bit puzzling as to why they where even bothered to be included, but hey, a few bad eggs in an otherwise stellar collection is not really a big deal to me. While it's great to see some many of our favorite(and not so favorite) games from our youth compiled into one place, it's even better to see them upped to a resolution that doesn't make one cringe when playing it on an HD TV. Sega included more than just genesis games on this compilation as well. Several arcade classics, like Zaxxon, and the original Phantasy Star for the Sega Master System are included as unlockables.
The biggest complaint I have with this is game stems from Sega's previous release, Sega Genesis Collection for the PS2. The majority of the games from this newest collection were already included in the previous compilation; so if you already own the first collection, there's not much reason to get the next one(unless you are a die hard Shining Force fan like me).
Overall, the collection is a great value at 30 bucks. Most of these games would cost that individually , so if you haven't played these great games before, now is your chance.
