The worst game I've never played.
I know the expression 'You should never judge a book by its cover' but on this occasion, I am pretty willing to forget the wisdom behind this; I give you Fifty Cent; Bulletproof. I couldn't quite believe my eyes when I saw this advertised on the television. When musicians decide to project themselves into their own video game, there is always going to be one outcome; unmitigated carnage. Has anyone ever heard of a game called Revolution X? Probably not but let me enlighten you; the aim of the game was to overthrow a grim totalitarian regime.........with the help of Aerosmith. I'm probably not the only one to find it impossible to get my head around that one. Its, frankly, bizarre to say the least. In more modern guises, Revolution X being released on the SNES, we have Def Jam and Def Jam Vendetta, a hip hop wrestling game...........again, I cannot grasp this concept.
So now we have Fifty Cent; Bulletproof.......a game whereby you play as Fifty Cent, gunning down a myriad of dealers, informers, cops and anyone that happens to cross your path. Staggering stuff. Now, I'd just like to make it clear that I haven't played this game yet, it hasn't been released on Xbox Live as a demo (I'm still plucking up the courage to demo play Hour of Victory) and I'm sure not going to hand over forty pounds for a game I know will be a catastrophe of steaming junk, so from an impartial point of view I probably don't have a leg to stand on, but from a gamers point of view with twenty years of gaming under my belt, my spidey sense is tingling that this will go down as nothing but a sub par third person shooter that shifts units solely on the strength of Fifty Cent, Dr Dre and Eminem having attached their names to it; and in a time when too many of these average video games are flooding the market, this is a shame – games need edge this days, a new selling point, something that makes you stop and notice it. Its universal knowledge that in the arena of third person shooters, Grand Theft Auto is king; if you can't hope to challenge this, chances are you'll crash and burn, see also the Call of Duty series; it takes a momentous release to mount any serious challenge.
I am eagerly awaiting Val Doonican's video game debut.
