FragEgg Brings Together the MMORPG Community
The MMO industry is one of the most interesting and exciting developments that online gaming has made possible. With the top 10 most popular MMO's attracting around 50 million players between them their popularity across the world, particularly in the far east, is unquestionable. And most gamers, fans of RPG's, card trading games and table-top games will understand why. Playing video games for escapism is an oft cited reason for playing them, and you'll find it in bucket loads in an MMO game.

MMOs are primarily the reserve of PC gamers with increasingly popular titles making it onto this generation of consoles. The debate about PC Vs Console Gaming (PC VS Console Part 2 here with comedy spelling mistake ;-)) will go on and on, but one thing missing for a lot of PC games is the central place, one collective business or area, where different MMO gamers can congregate, best embodied in Microsoft's Xbox Live. If I play 2 or 3 different MMO's, I currently have no way of collecting these different identities and gaming experiences into one place. Frag Egg is a relatively new company setting out to change this, and let you collect all of your MMO gaming adventures into one website, one community and one identity.
How does it work? Sign up at the site, get an account, profile and avatar and download their application and for the actions and adventures you have in your favourite MMO games you'll be rewarded with points in their virtual currency. Use your virtual currency to upgrade your avatar and use the central place to collect your adventures and achievements to more easily show off to your mates and other gamers. It also allows you to meet other MMO gamers, make or renew gaming friendships and participate in a community that would otherwise not be possible. The supported games list is good and include DarkOrbit, Seafight, The-Pimps, SpaceInvasion, Xblaster, The Mafia 1930, Parsec, MG Soccer, MG Hockey, ChaosCars, World of Warcraft, Speed Cars, Action League Hockey, Action League Soccer, Gladius II, Damoria. This large list of supported games is indirectly one of my favourite features about Frag Egg. If you like MMO's, this is a great portal to find new games, read some reviews and get player feedback, plus help you meet other players and even swap tips.
Overall it looks like a good free package with nice features and something which will be of genuine interest to gamers who like to play a range of MMOs. Don't get me wrong I like Frag Egg and I like what it's doing, but this isn't an advertorial and it's only fair I share all of my thoughts about it. I'm wondering if the identities and interests that gamer's have in different MMO's mix in this way, or if gamer's actually want them to mix? Clearly that's a matter for the individual. The customisable Avatar and points collecting is genius in one way – MMO players love levelling up, customising characters and getting as much out of a game as possible, but would they rather be doing this in the MMO or on a separate website? My final concern is born out of my relatively limited knowledge on the subject. Do MMO players play different MMO's or do they have a loyalty and affinity to one particular game? If you have friends, a clan and followers in one MMO, how easily can you ditch this and start from scratch in another one. What about if you're paying for a subscription?
It's a good product and I do recommend it to MMO players, but it's not just it's features or benefits that I like about it. What I love about it most is it's position within the gaming industry at large – it's trying to bring together the MMO community into one place and is the best subsidiary industry of MMOs that I've seen, and for that – I wish it the best of luck!
